Known issues

• Battery degradation and reduced electric range after 5–7 years; battery replacement costs €8,000–€12,000+
• 12V auxiliary battery drain and failure due to high electrical demand from hybrid systems
• High-voltage charging port and connector corrosion, particularly in Irish damp conditions
• DSG dual-clutch gearbox judder and shuddering during low-speed manoeuvres and parking
• Timing chain tensioner wear causing rattle on cold start; premature wear reported in some units
• Electric motor/inverter faults causing limp-mode or loss of electric drive; expensive replacements (€3,000–€5,000)

Good for

• Excellent combined performance: 252 hp petrol engine + 112 hp electric motor, responsive and smooth when both systems engage
• Low-speed electric-only driving in urban areas and short commutes if regularly charged; minimal emissions benefit
• Premium interior, advanced infotainment, and comfort features typical of the 3 Series segment
• Tax efficiency: low CO2 classification (if claimed as WLTP) reduces road tax in early registration years
