Known issues

• DSG (DQ200/DQ381) gearbox shudder, jerking, or loss of drive on low-speed manoeuvres and in traffic—often requires software update or full transmission replacement (€3,000–€5,500)
• Direct injection carbon buildup on the intake valves causing rough idle, misfires, and reduced fuel economy around 80,000–120,000 km
• Timing chain rattle on cold start, particularly in 1.4 TSI engines—can indicate chain wear or tensioner failure (€1,200–€2,000 to replace)
• Mechatronic unit failures in DSG transmissions causing sudden loss of reverse, loss of drive, or warning lights (€2,000–€4,000 repair)
• Electrical gremlins including faulty door locks, window regulators sticking, and infotainment system freezing or touch-screen responsiveness issues
• Coolant expansion tank plastic degradation and leaks; heater control valve failure causing loss of cabin heat

Good for

• Spacious, practical interior with generous boot space and comfortable rear legroom for family use
• Smooth, refined petrol engines (1.4 TSI, 1.8 TSI) with reasonable performance and adequate fuel economy when driven carefully
