Known issues

• DQ200 7-speed DSG gearbox shuddering and hesitation on low-speed manoeuvres, especially in heavy traffic
• Carbon build-up on direct-injection petrol engines leading to rough idle and reduced fuel economy around 60,000–80,000 miles
• Timing chain rattle on cold starts, particularly in 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoTSI models
• Door lock actuators failing prematurely, causing locking/unlocking issues
• Water ingress into rear light clusters and condensation in headlights
• Mechatronic unit failure in DSG models (separate from gearbox), leading to loss of reverse or stuck gears

Good for

• Affordable, economical city car with responsive steering and good handling for its class
• Low insurance groups and inexpensive spare parts due to VW Group platform sharing
• Compact dimensions and excellent visibility make it ideal for urban commuting and tight parking
• Decent boot space and fuel economy (typically 45–55 mpg real-world in petrol variants)
