Known issues

• 12V auxiliary battery discharge and starter issues after 5–8 years; the hybrid system can over-draw the small 12V battery
• High-voltage battery capacity loss (typically 5–15% by year 5–7); some units show premature degradation around 80–100k km
• Charging port corrosion and intermittent charging faults, particularly in damp Irish/UK climates; connectors may fail to seat properly
• Gearbox shudder and lurching during low-speed manoeuvres in electric mode; software calibration issues in some units
• Electric motor bearing noise and occasional motor control unit faults leading to limp mode or loss of EV function
• Water ingress into the rear floor cavity near the battery pack, causing corrosion and electrical faults in high-mileage examples

Good for

• Spacious, practical seven-seat SUV with good load capacity and towing ability (up to 1,500 kg braked)
• Low local emissions in town driving if regularly charged; silent electric motor for commuting on a full battery
• Relatively affordable PHEV on the second-hand market compared to rivals (Audi Q5 TFSI e, BMW X5 xDrive45e)
• Proven 2.4L petrol engine and established hybrid architecture with reasonable parts availability and independent garage support
