Known issues

• Diesel particulate filter (DPF) clogging, especially on low-mileage short-journey cars—requires forced regeneration or replacement (€600–€1,200)
• Fuel injector problems causing rough idle and loss of power; more common from 80,000 miles onwards
• Electrical gremlins: battery drain, window switch failures, and intermittent dashboard warning lights
• Turbocharger bearing wear leading to whistling noise and eventual loss of boost pressure
• EGR valve carbon build-up causing rough running and limp-mode activation
• Timing chain rattle on cold start (typically cosmetic, but worth noting)

Good for

• Strong, torquey diesel engine delivering good real-world fuel economy (38–42 mpg on mixed driving)
• Robust all-wheel-drive system and decent ground clearance for light off-road use
• Spacious, practical interior with good cargo capacity and comfortable seating for families
• Low purchase price on the used market and cheap parts availability through independent suppliers
