Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration problems if driven predominantly at low speeds or short journeys; premature clogging requiring £800–1200 cleaning or replacement
• EGR valve sticking or carbon buildup on the 1.6 i-DTEC, causing rough idle or limp-mode activation; affects some 2016–2019 examples
• Turbocharger bearing wear on higher-mileage examples (80k+ miles), leading to loss of boost pressure and increased exhaust smoke
• Diesel injector coking or seal failure, particularly if service intervals have been missed; symptoms include rough running or starting difficulty
• Gearbox judder on the 9-speed automatic during low-speed manoeuvres or parking (rare but documented); typically software-related or transmission fluid degradation
• Rear suspension noise (squeaking or clunking) from worn bushes or trailing arm wear by 100k+ miles

Good for

• Fuel economy: real-world 45–52 mpg on mixed driving, significantly better than petrol equivalent
• Towing: 1600 kg braked capacity and robust engine make it a capable family hauler
• Low road tax: diesel engines benefit from lower VED rates and reduced insurance premiums vs petrol CR-V
• Reliability: Honda's 1.6 i-DTEC is bulletproof if serviced regularly and driven to keep DPF active
