Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration issues and clogging, particularly with short urban journeys; can result in limp mode and €800–1500 repair costs
• Diesel injector faults causing rough idle, poor cold starts, and fault codes; replacement injectors are expensive (€400–600 each)
• Electrical gremlins including iDrive infotainment freezing, faulty control modules, and dashboard warning lights for non-existent faults
• Turbocharger carbon build-up and occasional boost pressure sensor failures, reducing power and causing check-engine warnings
• Water ingress into the rear light clusters causing corrosion and electrical shorts; headlight condensation also reported
• High-pressure fuel pump wear and fuel line issues on some examples, causing starting difficulties and fuel economy deterioration

Good for

• Excellent diesel efficiency on motorway driving; real-world combined consumption around 45–50 mpg if DPF is healthy
• Strong pulling power and refinement; good towing capacity (2000 kg braked) makes it practical for families
• Spacious, comfortable interior with good boot space; well-appointed cabin for the era
• Relatively safe vehicle with comprehensive airbag suite and stability control systems
