Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) clogging and regeneration failures, especially in low-mileage or city-driven examples; forced regeneration or DPF removal becomes expensive
• EGR valve carbon build-up causing reduced power, rough idle, and limp-mode activation
• Fuel injector deposits and occasional injector replacement needed (common on 2.0 TDI engines)
• DSG automatic gearbox judder on low-speed manoeuvres and jerky downshifts (if automatic model)
• Turbocharger bearing wear and occasional turbo lag; full turbo replacement cost €1,200–€1,800
• Electrical gremlins: sliding door motors failing, window regulator failures, dashboard lighting issues

Good for

• Seven-seat family practicality with flexible interior and good boot space
• Reasonable fuel economy on motorway driving (45–50 mpg achievable)
• Solid German build quality and robustness compared to similarly aged rivals
