Known issues

• DPF (diesel particulate filter) clogging on vehicles driven predominantly in town, requiring forced regeneration or replacement (~€800–€1,200)
• 6-speed automatic gearbox judder or hesitation during low-speed manoeuvres (rare, mainly early 2019 units)
• EGR valve carbon build-up leading to rough idle or limp mode (typically after 80,000+ miles)
• Rear brake pad wear slightly faster than front due to load distribution
• Water ingress into door seals causing interior dampness in poorly maintained examples
• Diesel fuel pump relay failure causing no-start condition (very occasional, ~2019–2020 period)

Good for

• Fuel economy: 45–52 mpg real-world on mixed driving with a well-maintained DPF
• Affordability: low purchase price and cheap parts availability in Ireland/UK market
• Practicality: good boot space (401L) and easy-to-use interior for family use
• Resale value: strong demand for used Vitaras; holds value reasonably well
