Known issues

• 1.5 TSI direct injection carbon accumulation on intake valves if oil change intervals stretched or poor fuel quality used
• DSG automatic gearbox (where fitted) occasional judder at low speeds or creeping in traffic
• Timing chain rattle on cold start in some early TSI examples, usually cosmetic but worth investigating
• Water pump failure reported on 1.5 TSI around 80,000–120,000 km; not common but expensive
• Infotainment system occasional software glitches requiring recalibration
• Sunroof/panoramic roof drainage tube blockages causing interior moisture

Good for

• Spacious, practical interior with excellent boot space (590 litres)
• Efficient 1.5 TSI engine balancing performance and economy (45–50 mpg real-world)
• Composed handling and comfortable ride quality for family motorway driving
• Strong residual values and low running costs vs. German premium competitors
