Known issues

• 1.0 TSI engine carbon build-up on intake valves causing rough idle and loss of power; more common if regularly short-tripped
• Early turbocharger bearing wear on 1.0 TSI (2016–2018 build) leading to turbo failure and blue smoke; affects small percentage of vehicles
• DSG automatic gearbox (if equipped) occasional judder on low-speed manoeuvres and creeping issues in traffic
• Water ingress into door seals and window regulators, particularly on earlier 2018 builds
• Timing chain rattle on cold start (1.5 TSI) in first 10,000 miles; usually self-resolves
• Cracked engine covers under bonnet due to heat stress (cosmetic but indicates underdash temperature issues)

Good for

• Spacious, practical interior with excellent boot space for family use
• Robust petrol engines (1.0 and 1.5 TSI) with proven reliability when serviced on schedule
• Low fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions relative to petrol equivalents; real-world 45–50 mpg achievable
• Parts availability and affordable independent servicing costs; simple engine bay design
