Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) blockages on low-mileage urban driving; regeneration may fail leading to limp mode and costly cleaning/replacement (€800–€1,500)
• EGR valve carbon buildup causing rough idle and fault codes, particularly on earlier 2.0 TDI units
• Turbocharger bearing wear on 1.6 TDI after 100k+ miles if oil changes neglected; symptoms include whistling and loss of power
• Water ingress into rear light clusters and occasional corrosion of internal contacts causing intermittent warning lights
• DSG 7-speed gearbox occasional judder on low-speed manoeuvres in stop-start traffic (inherited VW Group issue)
• Cracked engine block reported on rare 2.0 TDI units (early 2020 production); very uncommon but catastrophic if it occurs

Good for

• Practical, spacious interior with good boot capacity and flexible seating for families
• Respectable real-world diesel fuel economy (45–50 mpg on mixed driving with a well-maintained engine)
• Solid build quality and interior design; competitive with Seat, Volkswagen, and Audi cousins at lower cost
