Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration problems and blockages, especially on low-mileage or urban-driven examples; replacement cost €800–€1,200
• EGR valve sticking or carbon build-up, causing rough idle, increased emissions, and limp-home mode
• Electrical issues: dashboard flickering, interior light failures, and occasional battery drain from faulty comfort modules
• Timing chain stretch or rattle on higher-mileage examples (especially 2.0 HDi); requires chain replacement around 120k–140k miles
• Fuel injector carbon fouling or leakage on direct-injection diesel engines; symptoms include hard starting or rough running
• Transmission shudder or jerky engagement with EAT6 automatic gearbox on some examples; fluid changes sometimes required

Good for

• Spacious, practical interior with flexible seating and good boot space for families and light leisure use
• Respectable fuel economy (40–48 mpg real-world depending on driving) and decent torque delivery from diesel engines
• Relatively affordable purchase price on used market and modest road tax compared to petrol rivals
• Comfortable highway cruising with acceptable NVH levels for a mid-size SUV of that era
