Known issues

• CVT automatic gearbox shuddering, hesitation, and failure of torque converter lock-up on acceleration (very common)
• Electrical gremlins: dashboard warning lights (ABS, check engine) illuminating intermittently without fault codes
• Timing chain rattle on cold start, especially in winter; can indicate premature wear of chain tensioner
• AC compressor failure leading to loss of air conditioning; replacement is expensive
• Water ingress into passenger footwell area; weak door seals and drainage issues
• Engine carbon build-up on direct injection valves causing rough idle and reduced fuel economy after 80,000 miles

Good for

• Competent everyday compact SUV with good interior space relative to footprint
• Affordable used purchase price with low running costs for insurance and road tax
• Robust 4WD system (if equipped) provides genuine off-road capability
• Parts availability is reasonable; engine is proven and not overly complex
