Known issues

• DPF regeneration issues on vehicles with short urban journeys; clogging leads to limp-mode and expensive cleaning/replacement (€600–€1,200)
• EGR valve carbon buildup causing rough idle and increased emissions (particularly on higher-mileage examples)
• Injector coking on direct-injection diesel engines if poor-quality fuel or extended service intervals are used
• Occasional turbocharger bearing wear and oil starvation in poorly serviced units
• Transmission shudder or hesitation on some automatic variants during low-speed manoeuvres (DSG-type issues less common but reported)
• AdBlue system sensor faults causing warning lights and reduced power output

Good for

• Excellent fuel economy (45–55 mpg real-world on mixed driving) and low CO₂ emissions
• Strong torque delivery from the SkyActiv-D engine making it responsive for towing and motorway cruising
• Spacious interior, practical SUV design, and good visibility for family use
• Proven Mazda reliability record and relatively affordable maintenance compared to German competitors
