Known issues

• Cooling system failures: water pump and thermostat housing prone to leaks and corrosion, especially around 80,000–120,000 km
• Electrical faults: window regulators, door locks, and infotainment glitches are common; MINI electrical architecture is fragile
• Timing chain rattle on cold start: chain tensioner wear causes noise, particularly noticeable in the 1.5L three-cylinder engine
• Carbon build-up on direct injection valves: can cause hesitation, rough idle, and increased emissions
• Transmission shudder: some manual and automatic models exhibit judder during low-speed manoeuvres or gear changes
• High-pressure fuel pump failure: relatively uncommon but expensive (€600–€900 labour); symptoms include difficulty starting and loss of power
