Known issues

• Timing chain tensioner wear causing rattle on cold start; premature failure possible around 80,000–120,000 km
• Carbon buildup on direct injection valves leading to rough idle, hesitation, and reduced fuel economy
• High-pressure fuel pump failure (in some 1.5 3-cylinder turbos); symptoms include loss of power, stalling
• Transmission shudder/judder in manual gearboxes on low-speed manoeuvres, particularly in 1st/2nd gear
• Thermostat housing leaks and cooling system issues; overheating risk in warm weather
• Power steering fluid leaks from the steering rack; can be expensive to remedy
