Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regeneration failures and blocked DPF requiring expensive cleaning or replacement (€800–€1,500)
• EGR valve carbon build-up causing rough idle, loss of power, and check engine light
• Fuel injector deposits and injector failure on direct-injection diesel engines, particularly after 100,000 km
• DSG automatic gearbox (if fitted) shows juddering on low-speed manoeuvres and occasional transmission faults
• Turbocharger bearing wear and occasional turbo failure after 120,000+ km
• Electrical gremlins: intermittent dashboard warning lights, particularly engine management and emissions sensors

Good for

• Spacious, practical interior with flexible seating for families and small van duties
• Respectable fuel economy (42–50 mpg real-world on mixed driving if DPF is healthy)
• Low purchase price on secondhand market due to age and oversupply
• Robust mechanical fundamentals and good spare parts availability through Kia and independent suppliers
