Known issues

• DPF (diesel particulate filter) clogging and forced regeneration cycles, especially on short urban journeys; can cost €800–1,200 to clear or replace
• Turbocharger bearing wear and failure, manifesting as loss of power, increased boost pressure, or oil in intercooler; replacement €600–1,000
• EGR valve sticking and carbon buildup causing rough idle, limp mode, and increased emissions; cleaning or replacement €400–700
• Fuel injector issues causing hard starting, poor cold start, and rough running; diagnosis and replacement €300–600 per injector
• Thermostat housing corrosion and coolant leaks on the 1.5L diesel; can trigger overheating warnings
• Transmission shudder or judder on low-speed manoeuvres, particularly with the 6-speed manual (less common with automatic)

Good for

• Reasonable real-world fuel economy (45–50 mpg on mixed driving) compared to petrol equivalent, if DPF is kept healthy
• Affordable parts and strong independent garage support across Ireland; no exotic diagnostics required
• Good ground clearance and practicality for small family or urban SUV duties
• Modest insurance groups and reasonably low purchase price on the used market
