Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) clogging and forced regeneration cycles, especially on short urban journeys; can cost €800–€1,500 to replace
• EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve sticking or failure, leading to poor cold starts, rough idling, and warning lights
• Diesel injector deposits and occasional injector failure causing hard starting and loss of power
• 6-speed automatic gearbox judder, hesitation, and loss of drive on some units; manual gearbox generally more reliable
• Electrical issues: dashboard warning light intermittency, battery drain, and window regulator motor failure
• Timing belt replacement required at 120,000 km or 10 years (critical service, ~€400–€600)

Good for

• Decent fuel economy (45–50 mpg in real-world mixed driving on the 1.6 HDi variants)
• Spacious interior and practical five-door hatchback layout for families
• Affordable purchase price on the second-hand market relative to newer rivals
• Robust basic mechanicals if maintained regularly and driven on longer journeys to keep DPF clear
