Known issues

• Battery capacity degradation over time; BMW 7-series PHEV batteries (ca. 12 kWh net) can lose 5-10% capacity by 80,000 km if not actively maintained with optimal charging cycles
• High-voltage charging system faults (onboard charger or DC fast-charge port failures) leading to inability to charge; repair costs €1,500–€3,500 outside warranty
• Hybrid transmission shudder and delayed power transition between electric and ICE modes, especially during moderate acceleration or hill starts
• Coolant leaks from hybrid-specific cooling loops serving the high-voltage battery and electric motor; sealing the loops costs €600–€1,200
• DSG 8-speed automatic gearbox judder and hesitation in low-speed driving and city traffic, compounded by hybrid torque management
• Electronic handbrake and brake system integration faults (IHKA system), with brake feel inconsistency and occasional ABS warning lights; recalibration or component replacement €400–€800

• Excellent electric-only driving range (ca. 50–60 km WLTP) for daily commutes when regularly charged; silent, smooth EV performance in town
• Strong combined power delivery (389 bhp total) for highway merging and acceleration when hybrid system is engaged
• Premium cabin comfort, build quality, and advanced infotainment (iDrive 7); refined ride and handling for a luxury sedan
• Low road tax and exemption from congestion charges in some UK regions if registered before the deadline; reduced VED in Ireland for PHEV
