Known issues

• DPF (diesel particulate filter) blockages requiring forced regeneration or replacement, especially on vehicles with short urban journeys—very expensive €1,500–€3,000 repair
• Injector carbon build-up and occasional injector failure on B47 engines, causing rough idle and reduced power
• AdBlue system faults and sensor errors leading to limp-mode or engine shutdown if fluid quality is poor
• EGR valve deposits and cooler issues causing excessive emissions warning lights and reduced fuel economy
• Transmission jerking or hesitation on 8-speed Steptronic automatic, particularly during low-speed manoeuvres
• Electrical gremlins including infotainment software glitches and occasional dashboard warning light false-positives

Good for

• Smooth, efficient motorway cruising with genuine 45–50 mpg potential on longer journeys
• Composed ride quality, well-appointed interior, and strong warranty (if purchased as approved used with BMW dealer cover)
• Adequate performance and responsiveness for an executive saloon with good towing capacity
• Premium build quality and depreciation slower than mainstream competitors in this segment
