Known issues

• High-voltage battery capacity loss and reduced electric range after 60,000–80,000 miles; BMW warranty covers 8 years/100,000 km but degradation is common beyond that
• Charging port water ingress and connectivity issues; charging system intermittent failures requiring expensive module replacement
• DSG 8-speed automatic gearbox hesitation and shuddering during low-speed manoeuvres, particularly when switching between EV and petrol modes
• Particulate filter (DPF) and EGR valve carbon build-up on petrol engine, especially if not regularly driven at motorway speeds or if battery is always charged (short trips only)
• 12V auxiliary battery drain and starter issues; hybrid systems can cause parasitic drain even when parked
• Brake fluid contamination due to integrated hybrid regenerative braking system; more frequent fluid changes required than conventional cars

• Smooth, quiet electric motor acceleration and responsive petrol turbo engine for motorway cruising
• Strong residual value and low BiK tax (2021 models typically 8–12%) for company car buyers
• Integrated infotainment and driver assistance systems (adaptive cruise, lane keeping) are mature and reliable in 2021 iteration
