Known issues

• DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) clogging and regeneration issues, particularly on low-mileage or urban-driven cars; can cost €800–€1,500 to clean or replace
• High-pressure fuel injection system problems; injectors prone to carbon build-up causing rough idle and reduced power
• EGR valve sticking or failure, leading to loss of power, rough running, and check engine lights
• Electrical gremlins: faulty door lock actuators, window regulator failures, and intermittent dashboard warning lights
• N47/N57 diesel engines susceptible to timing chain tensioner wear at higher mileages (above 80,000 km); can lead to catastrophic engine damage if not addressed
• DSG dual-clutch gearbox (116d/118d models) shuddering or hesitation on low-speed manoeuvres and in traffic

• Fuel efficiency on motorway driving; real-world consumption 45–50 mpg (9.5–11.3 L/100 km) possible with disciplined driving
