Known issues

• DPF (diesel particulate filter) regeneration issues leading to limp mode or forced dealer visits if short-journey driving pattern used
• EGR valve carbon buildup causing rough idle or increased emissions in first 80,000 km if using poor-quality fuel
• Injector stiction on early TDI units when fuel quality is poor; symptoms include cold-start roughness and white smoke
• Turbocharger variable geometry solenoid sticking, causing loss of boost pressure or turbo lag hesitation
• Dual-mass flywheel shudder under load (1,500–2,500 rpm) in some examples; can require replacement at ~€1,200
• Electrical gremlins: AdBlue heater element failures causing fault lights and poor regeneration
